Protected-housing applicants' registers: where to sign up in each region

Piso Propio ·

Where do I join the protected-housing applicants' register?

In your region's register, before the call opens. In Andalucía each town hall keeps its own, the Comunidad de Madrid has no general one and in Aragón the obligation is suspended. A registration lasts 2 to 4 years and must be renewed in time.

How to check your status
On your town hall's electronic office

You register with the ayuntamiento of the town where you want to live and, if you wish, two more towns. You apply at the ayuntamiento, or online where it allows it.

Since 24 January 2026 the law (Ley 5/2025, art. 62.4) requires a new declaration every 2 years, or the registration is cancelled. The Junta's website and many municipal bylaws still say 3 years because they have not been updated, and the law does not say what happens to earlier registrations. Count 2 years from your registration or last update: it is the earliest date.

Each ayuntamiento may ask for documents besides the sworn declaration. Councils have until 24 January 2027 to run the register with their own systems; until then they stay on the Junta's platform.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to register to apply for protected housing?

Almost always. In 14 of the 19 territories you must be registered to be allocated a protected home, and in 3 more only for some of it: public developments in the Comunitat Valenciana, private ones in Murcia and Melilla. In Aragón the obligation is suspended, and the Comunidad de Madrid has no general register: there each development is applied for separately.

How long does a registration last?

Between 2 and 4 years, depending on the register: 2 years in Andalucía, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalunya, Comunitat Valenciana, Euskadi, Illes Balears and Navarra; 3 years in Aragón, Asturias, Castilla y León, Galicia, La Rioja and Melilla; 4 years in Canarias and Cantabria. In Extremadura it expires on fixed dates, the first time on 30 June 2027. If you do not renew in time you are removed and, in some registers, you lose your seniority. In Andalucía the law says 2 since 24 January 2026, though many municipal bylaws still say 3.

Do I register with the town hall or the region?

Almost always with the region, and in many registers you pick the towns where you want a home. Andalucía is the other way round: each town hall keeps its own register. Some cities also have their own register for municipal housing, such as Barcelona, Madrid (EMVS) or València.

How do I know I am still registered?

It depends on the register. In 9 you can check online, usually with a digital certificate or Cl@ve; in Cantabria your NIF and date of birth are enough. Elsewhere they notify you or you ask by phone or email. Each region on this page says how.

Does being registered guarantee me a home?

No. It lets you take part in draws and allocation procedures. Who gets each home is decided later by the draw, the points or the seniority rules of each call.

Guidance only, not legal advice. Your region's or town hall's rule and each call's rules prevail.
